The US Family Visa H-4 allows the husband (wife) and children under 21 of the holder of an H-1, H-2, H-3 visa to temporarily enter the United States.
US Family Visa H-4. Advantages:
You can come to the United States with your spouse (parent) or join him (her) later;
You are not required to have permanent residence in your home country;
You can travel within and outside the United States, or remain in the United States permanently while your H-4 status is in effect;
You are eligible to study at any American university. You are not eligible for employment in the United States while you are in H-4 status.
US Family Visa H-4. Documents for registration
An applicant for an H-1, H-2, or H-3 visa must mention the names of their dependents when applying for a visa at the USCIS Immigration Center. Once he receives a Form I-797 Work Permit from USCIS, his dependents can apply for an H-4 visa by providing:
Form DS-160 – Application for a Nonimmigrant Visa;
a copy of a passport that is valid for at least six months outside the period of stay in the United States and with at least one blank page;
two identical color photographs on a light background showing the entire face without head covering. You can wear a headdress if required by the religious community of which you are a member;
a copy of the marriage certificate for the spouses;
Birth certificates for children under the age of 21.
US Family Visa H-4. duration of stay
Your H-4 visa is valid for as long as your spouse or parent’s main visa is valid. You can also apply for an extension of the H-4 visa when the main H-visa is being extended.
